This week, Carin and Jesse talk to Emily Joy while she’s in town for the Gay Christian Network Conference.  Emily Joy (among many things) is a spoken word poet and yoga instructor in Nashville. Emily Joy employs poetry and yoga to open conversation around topics and issues typically left off the table in traditional Christian culture.  Emily makes space for expression and healing around some of the hardest parts of being human through workshops and speaking engagements. The group talks about homeschooling, faith deconstruction, the poetry-writing process, anger as a catalyst, sexuality, and unlearning oppressive portions of theology.  Emily shares her moving poem, “How to Love the Sinner Hate the Sin: 5 Easy Steps” and what she hopes for, for Christianity.
